Perhaps it’s a tax thing?
If he has his own foundation perhaps they’ll do interesting things with the cash that benefit him? 
But seriously – good on him. It’s so true that most of us actually live incredibly comfy lives – the fact that an overseas trip is about 1 months saving is a sign of that. Some people of course can’t even get food.
