And we all know it but here is another example:
Last night I was working late and got a call from a friend who happened to be in town on I guess what could technically be called work. Russ is an announcer at MoreFM in Central Otago. He came up to go to UB40 who were playing at the Queens Wharf Events Centre here in Welly – but with a couple of listeners who had won some competition.
Anyway, as the night progressed we found ourselves at Hummingbird and ordered a couple of Margharitas. I finished mine and declined to order another when asked (attentive staff) while Russ finished his. A couple of minutes later, the bartender poured us a couple of lemon waters with a touch of soda water.
Two things are great about this but firstly, it wasn’t promted. I didn’t ask for a water and had declined an opportunity to order a cocktail. Secondly, it wasn’t just a plain ol’ glass of water. It was iced, with lemon, with soda water, and with a straw. He went an extra step with something he was already going the extra step on.
Fantastic! Guess where I’ll be more than happy to frequent next time I’m in town…
